Openreach is taking major steps to improve broadband for customers stuck on slower copper-based connections with its Proactive FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) upgrades. This initiative focuses on making upgrades easier, reducing costs, and offering significantly faster speeds. Here’s what they’re doing to make the shift to full-fibre a reality for everyone.
Proactive Migration Process
Openreach is streamlining how Internet Service Providers (ISPs) can upgrade customers from older technologies like ADSL, FTTC (VDSL2), and G.fast to FTTP. ISPs can now schedule upgrades while booking an Openreach engineer for installation.
Customers can confirm, decline, or reschedule appointments, giving them more control and flexibility. It’s a straightforward way to make moving to FTTP more convenient and customer-friendly.
Here’s how FTTP is installed:
Free Virtual Tour
Openreach is now offering a free virtual tour of the Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) installation process, guided by their experienced engineers. This initiative provides a detailed understanding of the various stages involved, from the exchange to the customer’s property.
The virtual tour covers how fibre cables are laid, the setup of key equipment like the Optical Network Terminal (ONT), and the final steps to enable high-speed internet connectivity. By showcasing each step, this resource gives users a clear view of what to expect during the installation and highlights the benefits of upgrading to FTTP.

Enhanced Speed Offerings
Openreach is stepping up its efforts across various areas by introducing new FTTP speed tiers, with download options of up to 1.2Gbps and 1.8Gbps. These upgrades are helping communities transition to faster, more reliable internet, significantly enhancing online experiences for households and businesses.
Whether it’s streaming, gaming, or working from home, these speeds offer smoother and more dependable connectivity. With these improvements, Openreach is empowering areas to keep up with modern digital demands while future-proofing their broadband infrastructure.
